Colorado Supreme Court Dismisses Voucher Case

on Fri, 01/26/2018 - 04:38

The Colorado Supreme Court today dismissed the appeal in the case of Taxpayers for Public Education v. Douglas County School District, and vacated all orders and judgments in the case. In granting the Motion to Dismiss filed by Taxpayers for Public Education, the Douglas County School District and other parties, the Court held that the appeal was now moot because the Douglas County School District has formally rescinded the voucher program that the case challenged.

Taxpayers for Public Education (TFPE) was represented pro bono throughout the litigation by Michael McCarthy and a team of lawyers from Faegre Baker Daniels.
The dismissal of Taxpayers for Public Education appeal, together with the election of a new anti-voucher slate of School Board members in the Douglas County School District, effectively ends the years-long attempt by so-called “school choice” proponents to funnel state public school monies into private school education. TFPE President Cindy Barnard said, "We are very pleased that the misuse of public school funds to pay for private education in Douglas County is over"
